Nous sommes arrives!
After a quick 5.5 hr flight, we have made it here. The flight went well, apart from the fact that we didn't get a wink of much needed sleep and there was too much turbulance to really enjoy the baby bassinet. But the service was good and the food seemed really great (maybe we were just starving?).
Our flight to Lyon was short but also good. Air France treated us very nicely, and in fact, every French person we have come into contact with has been very friendly and helpful. (I think a lot of the people out in Grenoble are just so happy to have a "tourist" come to their little city!)
Lyon was BEAUTIFUL. Melanie is trying to find some dental offices for Brad to take over so we can warrant a move. The landscape is just gorgeous. Even farmers fields are meticulous manicured and outlined with perfectly trimmed trees.
Grenoble is a cute little mountain city. It is just big enough to be interesting and exciting, but small enough that we can handle walking around with out getting lost. We took the tram (located right outside our hotel) into town this afternoon and spent the day retracing Brad's old school day steps at the Lycee and the Bastille. The view was amazing in the "boules".
And sad to say, after our initial meal of croissants and pain au chocolat, we headed to McDonald's to try out the "French" version, which was much better than the North American counterpart. Although, the sign had a disclaimer, "For your health, don't eat too much fat, sugar, or salt." (We figured this would be our only MickeyD's stop and could enjoy French food later on in the small villages on the cote d'azur.)
Our hotel is, well, probably decent by French standards. The bathroom is peeling away with water damage, the bed, well, just don't take the bottom sheet off the mattress (no one else has for the last 200 years it seems), and Brad found a pair of socks on the floor that didn't belong to either of us. Checking out will be so nice tomorrow morning. But for now, it is providing a place to lay our heads for some much needed zzzz's . . . if only Avery would go to bed. (She caught up on her sleep during much of our walking tour.)
Tomorrow we are off for a driving tour of Marionette and then on to Avignon and Cannes, where our next hotel should be MUCH better than this one.
A bientot!

First stop, a boulangerie for some fresh croissants and pain au chocolat.
Our fearless tour guide (and interpreter).
Brad at the Lycee.
Some of us didn't find the Lycee or the courtyard as interesting as Dad.
The mountain fortress that you can take the "boules" up to.
View from the top.
Brad at the top of the mountain.
After a few misdirections on the tram system, we figured out how to get around. The trams were a great way to get around the city--much better than trying to drive around when we don't know the area or when parking is impossible. It was quite a sight to see something so new looking in such an old city.
